Owner-Occupied Rehabilitation Program - Up to $15,333, for owners of one-unit homes.
Neighborhood Housing Services of Jamaica (NSHJ) administers an Owner-Occupied Rehabilitation Program. The NHS of Jamaica Owner-Occupied Rehabilitation Program provides direct assistance to owners throughout the districts to help stabilize their communities by upgrading their properties and making them more affordable.
The NHSJ Loan Officer will provide one-on-one financial counseling with all applicants to determine eligibility. She/He will review credit reports, verify income, ownership, taxes, insurance, and will help complete a household budget. Applicants will be thoroughly counseled on amounts and use of funds as well as NHSJ’ authority to approve, disapprove or cancel requests for funding that does not meet the programs guidelines./b>
Grants will be made available to low-income families within our catchments area (Community Boards 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, and 14). Following are synopsis of each area– by community board based on the 2000 Census results.
COMMUNITY BOARD 8
service areas: Kew Gardens Hills, Utopia, Fresh Meadows, Hillcrest, Briarwood, Jamaica Hills and Estates, Holliswood and Flushing South. Here, the 2000 population is 146,594.
COMMUNITY BOARD 9
service areas: Richmond Hill, Woodhaven, Kew Gardens and Ozone Park. 141, 608 residents live in this area.
COMMUNITY BOARD 10
service areas: Ozone Park, South Ozone Park, Lindenwood, Howard Beach, South Richmond Hill and Rockwood Park. This is an area with 127,274 residents.
COMMUNITY BOARD 12
service areas: Jamaica, South Jamaica, Hollis, St. Albans, South Ozone Park, Addisleigh Park and Springfield Gardens. The census shows the second biggest population in Queens with 223,602 residents.
COMMUNITY BOARD 13
service areas: Queens Village, Glen Oaks, Bellerose, Cambria Heights, Laurelton, Rosedale, Floral Park, Springfield Gardens and Bellaire. The entire population of this area is 196,284.
COMMUNITY BOARD 14
service areas: The Rockaways and Broad Channel. The total population here is 106,686.
