HOME IMPROVEMENT LOANS

Since 1974, NHS of Jamaica has expanded its list to include the following loan products: 1-to-4 unit home improvement loans, emergency and debt-consolidation loans. We offer grants for low-income senior owners who cannot afford to pay for emergency repairs.

NHSJ works closely with the City of New York and Private Lenders in helping eligible residents apply for the Home Improvement Loan Program (H.I.P.). The Program offers affordable rates on home improvement loans.

Home Repair

Neighborhood Housing Services of Jamaica, can not only help you buy your first home, we can also help you maintain, repair or renovate it. We have many different programs designed to help you with different needs.

Moderate Repair Loans

Neighborhood Housing Services provides loans to homeowners for moderate interior and exterior repairs. Typical projects include roof repair, bathroom and kitchen renovation, electrical and plumbing upgrades, refurbishing of windows, walls and doors, and interior and exterior painting. You may be eligible if you own a house or apartment building from one- to four-units. Loan amounts range from $5,000 to $50,000.

Emergency Loans

We also have emergency loans, for owner-occupied one-four unit residential buildings in New York City, which have a limit of $6,500. The funds are to be used for emergency health and hazard repairs. Typical projects are repair or replacement of boilers, sewers, water mains and roofing. The maximum term is five years. Certain repairs for new homeowners may qualify for larger loan amounts.

Gut Construction Loans

This loan, for more substantial repairs, such as interior and exterior structural repairs, façade improvements, re-roofing, etc, is larger. The loan amount is from $50,000 to $300,000, available at terms up to 15 years. This loan is for owners of one-to-four unit, residential buildings, but the building need not be owner-occupied.

Construction Services

With all our repair and construction projects, we offer you assistance with the construction aspect of your project. A construction services staff person will be assigned to your project to guide you through the construction process, from preparing the scope of work to completion. Our Construction Project Managers can assist you in many phases of your project, from the initial inspection of the house to assessing the needed repairs and prioritizing them, to helping with contracts, through to periodic site inspections for the purpose of payments to the contractor.
