Neighborhood Housing Services Jamaica (NHSJ) works through the Mortgage Coalition Program to help buyers with mortgage placement. One visit to the NHSJ office can put you in touch with ten conventional lenders who are committed to increasing homeownership opportunities in our communities.

NHSJ works hard to bring special projects to the community that will help improve the quality of life.

We offer a wide range of services beginning with education. Our educational courses are designed to help prepare buyers for the home buying process through one-on-one counseling, homebuyers clubs and IBJ Educational Seminars. Our Home Buyer Education Program offers a comprehensive educational package for anyone who wants to learn more about how to successfully buy a home. This class is required for potential home buyers who want to access special programs that provide down payment assistance.

Am I ready to buy a home? How much can I afford? What should I look for in a home? How do I find a lender? Do I qualify for any special grants, loans, and interest rates? How do I avoid the common pitfalls in home buying?

If you have any of these questions, or others, consider taking our 12-hour Home Buyer Education class. The class meets frequently and is open to everyone. In six class sessions, you’ll learn to:

• Search for and evaluate homes
• Work with realtors, lenders, and other professionals
• Finance the purchase and find creative loan products
• Repair damaged credit and evaluate credit worthiness
• Close on a purchase, complete repairs, and insure your investment

We charge a small fee to cover the cost of materials and expenses. Each participant receives a home-buying manual.
